I met Erin and Conor a few months ago when I was playing on the beach with my kids. I saw them surfing with this old school style and knew I wanted to photograph them. Here are a few shots from our session. Thanks Erin and Conor.
As most of you know the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau big wave contest at Waimea Bay did not go today. There was the size, just not consistent. Contest or not there was still some amazing surfing. I had a shoot on the North Shore this morning, thought I would head over after and get a few shots. As I was standing on the bluff, I couldn’t help think to myself, how could I get on one of those skis to shoot from the water. That is the angle I would like to be shooting from. Maybe next year.
Here are a few shoots from the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons. This is the last competition of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. It was a beautiful day wish the waves were a bit bigger though. To see the results of day 1 go here.
I thought this was kind of cool. There was a guy controlling this remote control helicopter with a 5d mark II attached to it shooting video by the surfers. That is one way to get out there.
It has been a very long a summer of no surf at all on the North Shore here in Hawaii. Here are a few photos of the first swell to hit this year. I have just finished dialing in a few of my different water housings and can’t wait to get them in the waves this year.
Here are a few shots form my last job on the North Shore. I love shooting at V-Land especially at sun rise. The clouds make an amazing back drop.
Another school year starts and so does Halau Nalu, and the kids were all awesome. Especially this blondie, and yes I am allowed to say that because he is only 3, and he rips and he is my boy. I love doing surf photography for Halau Nalu, the kids are so energetic, talented and fun to shoot.
I am loving the new Canon 5D Mark II camera. When I combine it with Canon’s L lenses, I really love the results. I didn’t realize how much I would use the HD video, but it has been fun to incorporate the video into the last two weddings I shot. I will be posting those soon. Here is a test video and a few shots from pipe, located on the north shore of Oahu.
