As I arrived at this engagement shoot on the North Shore, the rain started and I thought for sure Tanya and Adam would want to reschedule, but they were troopers. I’m glad because it ended up being a fantastic photo shoot. The video I included is a little behind the scenes look at the underwater part of their session. Adam has been deployed three times overseas already and I wish them all the best in their upcoming wedding and life together. Congratulations Tanya and Adam, can’t wait to photograph your wedding. You guys are a beautiful couple.
UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE LAST YEAR
I don’t remember where I first saw it, but someone had a slide show made by Pummelvision. They just take a bunch of your photos and make a fast slide show in a few minutes. Instead of trying to make a slide show with all the photography from this last year, like the weddings, family, and commercial photos; I decided to just use the local underwater photography. It was kind of a fun thing to see.
KITCHEN CORNERS : UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY – OAHU HAWAII
In our home I do most of the cooking. One cooking blog I love is www.kitchencorners.com. The author of the blog, Damaris Santos-Palmer, was visiting family in Hawaii over Christmas. While she was here we set up an underwater shoot. It was so much fun to arrange and photograph this scene of her cooking underwater. We rigged this together in under 15 minutes with the help of her husband Christian. You have to read her blog to get a sense of how much fun she is – you can probably see it in these photos too! Bon appetit!
DANA & JAKE : NORTH SHORE HAWAII “TRASH THE DRESS SESSION”
Being a wedding photographer here in Hawaii I deal with a lot of different variables, especially when it comes to getting in the water for a trash the dress session. Being on an island we are often at the mercy of the wind, sun, waves, and all different elements. Dana and Jake’s “Trash the Dress session” almost didn’t happen. Jake sliced his foot open before their wedding and almost didn’t make it to the ceremony after spending most of the morning in the ER. The doctor told Jake to stay out of the water. A friend let us borrow the big blue boot to keep Jake’s foot dry, as seen below. Busted up foot or not Dana and Jake did a great job hiking over the coral on the North Shore, and getting in the water. The waves were a little big that day but we were able to find a safe location to get into the water. My two favorite pictures of this shoot are the 4th photo were Dana is running, and the last one. I think she looks so peaceful as she is gliding through the water.
KATIE & MIKE : MAUI WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY – TWIN FALLS MAUI
Katie and Mike flew into Maui after their wedding in Atlanta, Georgia. I met them in Maui for a trash the dress session at Twin Falls. They were both very adventurous, especially Katie to hike in with her wedding dress. The water fall was flowing pretty good since we had a week of rain prior. Last time I was here I was working on the Arbonne catalog, and couldn’t help to think what a cool place it would be to photograph a bride. So I was very excited when Katie and Mike called me up to photograph their post wedding pictures. Congratulations guys- it was a lot of fun spending this time with you!
DECEMBER WEDDINGS
I really love my job, I shot 2 weddings this past week and they were both so different but amazing at the same time. The first was a military wedding at Waimea Valley, and the second wedding was at Turtle Bay Resort where the whole wedding party went surfing after the wedding in their clothes. I will be posting more photos from both of these weddings after things slow down. I still have two water shoots and a trash the dress session in Maui, and that is before Christmas.
TRACI : BRIDAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY – LAIE HAWAII TEMPLE
I am so excited to photograph Traci and Adam’s wedding at Waimea Vally this week. I took some bridals of Traci a few week back at the Laie Hawaii Temple, and last June we did some underwater engagement pictures on the North Shore. You can see those here. They are a fun couple, and Waimea Vally is a beautiful place to get married, I think this is going to be an amazing wedding.
UNDERWATER PORTRAITS – HAWAII
ORGILL : HAWAII FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY – NORTH SHORE OAHU HAWAII
MEGHAN & MIKE : PRE WEDDING SURF PHOTOGRAPHY – NORTH SHORE OAHU HAWAII
Meghan and Mike came from California for a destination wedding in Hawaii. A few days before their wedding we set out for a pre wedding surf session on the north shore. I had a lot of fun photographing Meghan and Mike in the water, they are both talented surfers. Check back in a day or so to see photos from their wedding, it was an amazing wedding to photograph.
2011 HAWAI’I AND THE PACIFIC UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII CATALOG
This is one of the most moving pictures I have taken. There are a lot of rules in photography to create an amazing image, but sometimes it just comes down to place and time. This picture is Tom Pohaku Stone leading the ceremony of Lester Falatea’s paddle out at Pipeline two years ago. I got there before the sun came up and as it started to rise the sky just came alive with amazing color.
University of Hawaii picked up this picture for their 2011 Hawaii and the Pacific new and current book catalog. Click here to check out their catalog. While perusing the catalog look for the book Waves of Resistance, written by Isaiah Helekunihi Walker. He is a good friend of mine and an amazing historian and a gifted surfer.
KAYLIN : UNDERWATER SENIOR PORTRAITS HAWAII, NORTH SHORE OAHU
Kaylin came to Hawaii on vacation with her family and best friend and thought it would be a good idea to get her senior portraits taken while in Hawaii. Not a bad idea, especially if you want to have something a little different like underwater senior portraits. We first started taking pictures in the colorful surf town of Haleiwa, and them mosied on over to Waimea Bay to photograph her underwater. It was a lot of fun having her best friend there, and as you can see in the pictures below they had a lot of fun.
