Had an incredible experience this last week swimming with dolphins. I brought two underwater housings, a new one that I just refurbished for my 5D mark II. I also brought myGoPro that I shot the video above with. All the editing for this video was done by Amber Mozo. She is the daughter of legendary surf photographer Jon Mozo. Some people have a gift for photography and she is one of them, her work is amazing. http://ambermozo.com/
FASHION DESIGNER FIND: EMERSON MADE
My wife is a little bit into fashion. When it comes to clothing she doesn’t buy a whole lot, but she does prefer to buy things that are classic and well made. Some of her favorite clothes are 10 years old in her closet. One of her favorite designers is Emerson Made. Since Patria loves them and they are having a giveaway for customers who send in their snaps, I took a few shots of her wearing the brand and she sent them in and they ended up on her blog today. I grabbed the shots above from www.emersonmade.com Check out Emerson, she is an amazing artist. Clothing made in NYC. Emerson designs and models the clothing and her husband photographs her for the blog. They moved out of the city and onto a New Hampshire farm and it all looks incredible on her clever blog.
IRONMAN 2010 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – KONA HAWAII
I was hired by a company to capture video of a sponsored athlete in the 2010 World Championship Ironman in Kona Hawaii last Saturday. This was the first time I have seen an Ironman. For those of you that are not familiar with the Ironman, it’s a triathlon that consists of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run all without a break. The woman that I was covering is 50 years old and finished in under 12 hours. I don’t know if I could finish the swim. I had help along the way with this assignment from getting press passes and transportation, to my assistant Rob who tracked our athlete all day. The clip at the beginning is the start of the Ironman, when 1500 people fight for position. The last few pictures are of the finish line. It’s amazing what the human body can do. Watching the finishers make it to the end and then crumple with emotion or exhaustion was moving. They have volunteers lined up at the finish line just to assist, catch, care for people after they make it across.
FRENCH FREE DIVERS
(Photo taken from the video)
Check out this amazing video of two French free divers- Guillaume Nery is jumping on one breath and Julie Gautier is filming is on one breath as well. The two are a couple too. My kids thought this video was pretty cool.
DESTINATION WEDDING KONA HAWAII : SILVIA & MATT
I had a great time photographing Silvia & Matt’s destination wedding at the Royal Kona Resort, located on the ocean in Kona Hawaii. Silvia’s family came all the way from Germany, it was so fun the have the European vibe there and they had so much style. You can just tell from the wedding dress Silvia chose. This is the first time photographing a wedding at the Royal Kona Resort. Its a great location for a wedding in Kona and the sunset was amazing.
FULMERS : HAWAII FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY – NORTH SHORE OAHU
After being married 7 years Dave surprised his wife on their anniversary with a fun morning at the beach on the North Shore, and a family photo shoot that evening. I had a great time documenting their kayaking and cruising on the stand up paddle board (SUP). I posted one of the pictures a few weeks back here. I met them back on the North Shore later that evening for family pictures on the beach. The light was perfect and we scored a beautiful Hawaii sunset.
2011 HAWAI’I AND THE PACIFIC UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII CATALOG
This is one of the most moving pictures I have taken. There are a lot of rules in photography to create an amazing image, but sometimes it just comes down to place and time. This picture is Tom Pohaku Stone leading the ceremony of Lester Falatea’s paddle out at Pipeline two years ago. I got there before the sun came up and as it started to rise the sky just came alive with amazing color.
University of Hawaii picked up this picture for their 2011 Hawaii and the Pacific new and current book catalog. Click here to check out their catalog. While perusing the catalog look for the book Waves of Resistance, written by Isaiah Helekunihi Walker. He is a good friend of mine and an amazing historian and a gifted surfer.
DREWERY FAMILY : HAWAII FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY – LAIE HI
It was fun photographing the Drewery family again while they were back here on vacation. I shot maternity pictures of Michelle when they were last here. It is hard to tell from these pictures but she is expecting again. At the end of our shoot Michelle jumped in the water for a few underwater portraits. She looks so graceful and I love the dress she chose to wear.
The Laie Hawaii Temple is having an open house before it is rededicated. It is not often that general public can go inside a LDS Temple, so this is a great opportunity to check it out if your are going to be in Hawaii. The open house starts on October 22 and runes through November 13th. To learn more about the Laie Temple open house click here. From October 22 through November 21 I will be running a special on my Family photo sessions. I will be announcing the details later next week.
EXPRESSION SESSION AT KAHANA

NORTH SHORE HAWAII FIRST SURF OF THE YEAR : SURF PHOTOGRAPHY
RANDOM PHOTO FIND
I got a call a week ago from a few friends that were on a work / surf trip to Fiji. A trip that I wish I was on but I had a wedding that week. I thought they were joking when they said they saw a photo I had taken of my son surfing when he was 3 years old. Until they showed me these shots they had taken in a random resort clothing store in Nadi, Fiji. As I was typing this post I took a break to google something surf related and came across a surf camp in Costa Rica that used the same photo of Atticus. crazy.
ANNA & JOHN : NORTH SHORE HAWAII WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
I was unable to photograph Anna & John’s wedding at Turtle Bay because I was already booked on their wedding day. After telling Anna this, she still booked me for the day after. I am so glad she did, Anna and John are a stunning couple, and super fun to photograph. They came all the way from canada to get married on the North Shore of Oahu. I think the North Shore is an amazing place to get married, beautiful ocean and uncrowded beaches, I hope it stays that way.
This almost became a “Trash the Dress” session.
