BROOKE & IAN : TURTLE BAY HAWAII WEDDING

Turtle bay is such a fun place to have a wedding, located  between  Laie and the North Shore of Oahu.  The wedding planners there can take care of everything from catering to flowers.  We scored a beautiful Hawaiian day for Brooke and Ian’s wedding, it was perfect for taking pictures.  I love the colors she chose, they just popped in the photos.

MARRIED 12 YEARS TODAY AND STILL DEEPLY IN LOVE

I have been married 12 years today.   Our first year of marriage a stranger walked up to us out of the blue and said “you guys were made for eachother”, and I strongly believe that we were made for each other.  Patria truly completes me and strengthens my weaknesses.  Patria is by far the most beautiful woman I have ever photographed.  I still get butterflies when I look at her.  Often I feel like I am living a dream, and being married to Patria is the best part of it.  I love you.

ISABELLA & RYAN : WAIMEA BAY TRASH THE DRESS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY – NORTH SHORE OAHU HAWAII

A few days after the Sunset beach ceremony, I met up with Isabella and Ryan at Waimea Bay for some underwater pictures.  I still can’t believe she jumped off the rock in her dress!  It made for some fun photos and they are a beautiful couple.  Often these kinds of sessions are called “trash the dress” sessions, but I think there’s got to be a better phrase out there- anybody know one?

ISABELLA & RYAN : SUNSET BEACH WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY – NORTH SHORE OAHU HAWAII

This was such a beautuful day for a wedding at Sunset beach.  I love shooting weddings at the beach on the north shore.  I arrived about 1/2 hour before the bride and it  was fun to see so many friends going out to surf or just hanging on the beach.  Isabella and Ryan were so fun to photograph.  They had family visititing from all over the the world to celebrate their wedding in Hawaii.  Here are a few of their pictures taken at Sunset beach.  Check back tomorrow to see Isabella and Ryan jumping the rock at Waimea Bay in their wedding attire.

SUNSET BEACH FAMLIY PHOTOGRAPHY / UNDERWATER PORTRAITS – NORTH SHORE HAWAII

I think this is my favorite picture of the session,  likely because I would love to have a photograph of me and my grandfather like this.

A few weeks ago I shot this beautiful family on their vacation at Sunset beach here in Hawaii.  When I got to their vacation rental I noticed that they had a pool.  This is the first time I have ever shot in a pool.  I have to say it was a bit easier than shooting in the ocean where we have to work with waves, rip tides, sea life, surfers and other things.

TRACI & ADAM : UNDERWATER ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY : HALEIWA HAWAII

Had a great time photographing Traci and Adam.  We started off in Haleiwa and worked our way down the North Shore until we made it to Sunset Beach.  I was so excited when they said they wanted to jump off the rock at Waimea Bay, it makes for great pictures in the morning.  Traci’s brides maids happened to be in town during our engagement shoot and came along to help out, they even got in the water at the end.  I look forward to shooting Traci and Adam’s wedding at Waimea Valley in December.  Congratulations!

PŪNANA LEO O KO’OLAULOA GRADUATION

Fitting for Father’s Day weekend, I’m a proud papa today.  For the last two years we’ve been a Punana Leo ‘Ohana, meaning that our kids have been in the Punana Leo Hawaiian Immersion preschool program.  It’s been an incredible experience for our family.  Ruby graduated from the preschool last year and today Atticus graduated after two years in the program.  Here are only a few photos and some video of our kids speaking Hawaiian (and a clip of my wife even though she will cringe.  We are full of admiration and respect for the kumu who taught our kids so much.  We also have so much love for the other children and families in the program.  We feel lucky to know them all and call them friends.  The decision to give our kids the opportunity to learn Hawaiian may not be understood by all but we call Hawaii home and Hawaii would not be Hawaii without the home language and culture and the culture and language cannot be separated.  Allowing our kids to learn about these things without the filter of our haole interpretation has been one of the best decisions we’ve made.  We have so much more learning to do but the last two years have been life altering.
