RELL SUNN MENEHUNE 2011 : MAKAHA HAWAII

Another fun year at the Rell Sunn Menehune event at Makaha.  Spending time as a family and good friends.  The video highlights the kids from Halau Nalu surf club and the photos below are a few of the other participants, including Rell Sunn’s grandson in the yellow jersey.  Also a special shout out to Kumu  Ka’iulani for hooking us up with a place to stay and for helping with the kids in the water.

BONNIE + STOCKTON : BEACH WEDDING – KAILUA & KUALOA RANCH HAWAII

I had an amazing time photographing Bonnie and Stockton’s wedding.  They were married on the beautiful beaches of Kailua where they had tons of family and friends there to celebrate their special day.  Bonnie and Stockton both work in the movie industry, so everything was done right, from the decor to the best lighting I have ever worked with at a reception.  After the wedding ceremony they drove to Kualoa ranch for the reception in a restorted dodge comet.  I loved meeting all of their friends and family and wish Bonnie and Stockton never ending happiness in their life together!

MORGAN + JORDAN : NORTH SHORE WEDDING – MOKULE’IA BEACH HAWAII

Morgan and Jordan were married on Mokule’ia beach on the North Shore of Oahu.  After their ceremony we drove to the west most point on Oahu, Ka’ena Point.  We arrived at the perfect time to capture the amazing light, often referred to as the golden hour.  It’s a long drive to Ka’ena point, but what a stunning sunset. Sunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset weddingSunset wedding

ASHLEE + JON : HAWAII WEDDING – LAIE

wedding photographer

It has been a busy wedding season here in Hawaii.  I have wanted to post more but time is scarce.  Here are a few shots from Ashlee and Jon’s wedding at the Laie Hawaii Temple. They were married in the Laie temple and then had a ring ceremony afterwards on the grounds.  The first few images are from Laie Point,  I shot those with an off camera flash as it was the middle of the day and the sun was harsh.  I love how Ashlee’s dress blew in the wind.  We finished up at a beautiful beach in Hau’ula.  Congratulations Ashlee and Jon!hawaii wedding photographer

WALDEN SURFBOARDS : COMMERCIAL SHOOT – NORTH SHORE OAHU

This was a very exciting photo shoot.  First I met Bandy and Steve from Walden Surfboards, and our model Pumehana.  We did all our land shots, starting with Surf and Sea, and then stopping at a few places on the North Shore.  Then we stopped at Chuns reef were I photographed Pumehana and Steve in the water.  After about 20 minutes the lifeguard  started telling the other people in the water to come in.  We didn’t realize any thing was happening until someone yelled SHARK.  We decided we better swim in.

This was my second time shooting for Walden.  Steve Walden has been making boards since 1965.  This shoot was to highlight their Wahine Tie Dye’d boards.  You can see more of them on their site at waldensurfboards.com

LARA & CHRIS : HAWAII WEDDING – NORTH SHORE OAHU

Last March I photographed Chris and Lara’s engagement photos, you can see them here.  They gave away bottles of merlot with one of my images as the label.  The wedding venu was at the Bali Ho house on the North Show of Oahu  were they had the wedding ceremony and reception. The day of the wedding ended up being a beautiful day on the North Shore.  There was a little rain but we had a stunning Hawaiian sunset.  As a photographer you can’t ask for better lighting.  The reception was fantastic. It was catered by one of my favorite wedding planners, Milestone Events Hawaii.  I love when I arrive at a wedding and see them setting up, because I know the food is going to be amazing.  I also loved their wedding cake,  it was inspired by the surf art work of Heather Brown.   Congratulations Lara and Chris and thanks for letting me be part of your big day.

This couple is a match made in heaven.  It was so much fun photographing Sara & Isaac.  They are both talented surfers and we had a great engagement photo session in the water together.  We were lucky to find some surf on the north shore.  Congratulations Sara & Isaac, can’t wait to photograph your wedding.

SUMMER FUN IN THE SUN

It has been a very fun and busy summer for our family here in Hawaii.  In previous posts you have seen some of my work, but I have not had much time to blog as I have been balancing work and family time.  So I thought I would throw up a few shots from our summer fun with a few of our friends and family.  We started the summer with the kids surfing in the T&C grom surf contest in town.  My parents came in July for a couple weeks and we went to the west side and stayed in a little beach cottage.  The kids had a great time surfing and Atticus even got behind the camera and snapped a few shots.  I also got my mom and the kids to help me sew a new board bag for my new long board I shaped.   Patria and the kids got me a foam blank for Fathers Day, you can see some of the shaping photos below.  We also celebrated our 13 year anniversary in town without the kids, thanks to my mom and dad for watching over them.  Finished up the summer with a week of camping, some sailing, and we even laid net and got about 10 fish.  By the end I was definitely ready for school to start so I could get some rest.  Can’t wait till next summer.

MELANIE + BILLY : LOULU PALM ESTATE – NORTH SHORE OAHU, HAWAII

Another amazing wedding on the North Shore at Loulu Palm Estate.  This is truly one of the most beautiful places to have your wedding ceremony and reception in the same location.  Melanie and Billy had friends and family travel to Hawaii for their destination wedding, from as far away as New York City.  It was a fun crowd and there were 4 or 5 of their friends shooting with film cameras.  It made me wish I had brought mine.  I can’t wait to see their film photos.  Congratulations Melanie and Billy.

MORGAN & TAYLOR : LAIE TEMPLE WEDDING

What a beautiful wedding.  Morgan and Taylor had their wedding ceremony at the Laie Hawaii Temple.  Their reception was held at the art courtyard at BYU-Hawaii.  This was the first wedding event I have photographed at BYU-Hawaii.  There were many fun details that went into decorating the courtyard, making it an intimate reception.  Our tropical summer weather brought some rain during the reception, but I’ve heard that wedding day rain brings extra good fortune to the couple and it certainly didn’t dampen the good feelings and energy of the event.  It was memorable to witness all of the Maori culture expressed through Morgan’s family and Taylor joined in the haka as well.    Congratulations Morgan and Taylor!  Mahalo for allowing me to be a part of your amazing day.

STACEY + DAVID : ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY – NORTH SHORE HAWAII

I had a lot of fun taking Stacey and David’s engagement photos!  They were very out going and fun to photograph.  As we were coming in from shooting some underwater photos at Waimea Bay,  I almost stepped on a turtle, so of course we jumped back in and got some shots with it as it swam around.  Seeing and swimming with turtle’s never get’s old.  Best wishes Stacey and David!
