LYNNE & JOSH : NORTH SHORE OAHU HAWAII WEDDING

I  photographed Josh & Lynne and the cool thing about it was that their wedding was on Waimea Bay beach.  The state doesn’t give out many permits for Waimea beach weddings, but this couple got one.  We had a lot of fun shooting at Shark’s Cove and Ke Iki beaches too.   They were glowing and having a genuinely good time with each other.  How fun to be married with sand and surf at your feet, wind in your hair, sun on your face, and palm trees all around.

CAKE & SKATE WEDDING : LAIE POINT, OAHU HAWAII

Some of you may remember when I shoot Pat and Carrie’s post Wedding party on the point in Laie.  I guess there were a few other people with cameras.  Carrie’s sister in-law sent me this pictures of me shooting them.  And below that is the picture I was taking.  I would have to say I feel much more comfortable being on the back side of the camera than in front.  To see the older post of Pat and Carries’s Cake & Skate wedding pics, click here.

MELISSA & MATT : NORTH SHORE OAHU WEDDING PHOTOGRPAHY

Wow it has been a long time since I have had a chance to sit down and blog.  This last month has been crazy and I will be posing a lot of my recent work in this next few week plus a photo tip or two.  But first I wanted to get these wedding pictures of Melissa and Matt up.  I had a great time shooting with them, we went all over the North Shore of Oahu, and scored a beautiful sunset.

BECKY & DOUG : DESTINATION WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

I went to Northern California to capture this beautiful couple sealing the deal.  Becky looked stunning in her wedding gown and Doug cleaned up nice in a dapper suit and slippah’s.  These shots are from the two days that I spent with them, getting some of the pre-wedding family fun.  We got up at 5 am to get the preparation shots- Becky had to get up early to get ready and make it to the Sacramento temple for the morning sealing.  I had a great time, these two families really know how to put a party together.  I even got to do some water shots in a chilly California river.  Northern California has plenty of spectacular back drops.  See for yourself below:

JAYNIE AND DEREK: LOULU PALM ESTATE: NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HAWAII

Jaynie and Derek are a super chic and hip young couple. The beautiful pair is from Los Angeles, CA and decided to tie the knot here in beautiful Hawaii, and at the Loulu Palm Estate, which is a beautiful all-inclusive wedding locale situated on the North Shore of Oahu. I had a great time shooting this young and cool couple. I have to say that this wedding was very, very fun, and it definitely shows in the photographs.   Congratulations to Jaynie and Derek. Enjoy your new life adventures!

This is the song that the grooms men rolled in on, this wedding had a lot of soul.

SAM AND VERDI: PRE-WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY SHOOT: SUNSET BEACH, OAHU, HAWAII

Sam and Verdi are both from Taiwan and while visitinging beautiful Oahu, Hawaii on a business/vacation trip, they opted to take their pre-wedding photographs . These photos were taken at Sunset Beach Point, located on the North Shore of Oahu. This couple was completely enamored with one another as is obvious in their photographs. Congratulations to this beautiful couple and on venturing into a new life together!

TRACY AND ANDREW WEDDING: LOULU PALM ESTATE: OAHU, HAWAII

I had an amazing time photographing this beautiful couple: Tracy and Andrew. It was really cool watching two different families from the opposite sides of the world join together into one complete family. Tracy and her family are from Canada, and Andrew and his family are from Australia. This wedding was located at the Loulu Palm Estate, located on the North Shore of Oahu, and it was a fantastic venue for a wedding ceremony and reception. They include all the amenities one could want for an amazingly beautiful wedding, including a secluded private beach. One of the perks of being a wedding photographer is that I have the opportunity to eat many different types of delicious food at beautiful receptions, and the caterer from this wedding was unbelievable. The food was amazing. Congratulations to the happy couple! And thank you for the opportunity of being apart of your wedding. It was beautiful.

FILM IS NOT DEAD WORKSHOP : LAIE HAWAII

I finally got my film processed from the “Film Is Not Dead” workshop that I attended last November.  The work shop was hosted by film photographer Jonathan Canlas.  He is a destination wedding photographer based in Utah.  The work shop was 4 days and was located in Laie Hawaii.  It was nice I didn’t have to travel too far, just about a block. Jonathan had different models for us to photograph.  I shot mostly with my Mamiya 645 and a twin reflex I borrowed from a fellow workshop attendee.  It was fun shooting film again and to learn from a talented photographer with his own unique style.  The images below are from the workshop and straight from the lab with no digital enhancing.  I recommend this workshop for any wedding photographer, even if you don’t shoot film.

To see details for the next workshop go to Jonathan’s blog at www.canlasphotography.blogspot.com

Some shots of a few other workshop attendees.  Also in town for the workshop was incredible photographer, Seth Smoot (not pictured here) who I knew in New York City- it was extra fun for my wife and I to reconnect with the Smoot’s!  You can check his work out at www.sethsmoot.com

I think these two were also attending.

The remainder of the photos below make me think of fun, fresh, simple, carefree Hawaii beach shots.

TANYA AND RODNEY : WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY – NORTH SHORE OAHU HAWAII

This fun loving couple from Utah, met in Hawaii and returned with their families to get married.  It was supposed to be a Waimea Valley wedding reception, but a landslide, several days before, changed their plans.  Instead they celebrated at Shark’s Cove Grill, against the wide backdrop of the ocean.  The surf was huge on the north shore, crashing over the coral of Shark’s Cove.  This location allowed for a lot of fun with the surf shops and boutiques.   Shark’s Cove is one of the most breathtaking locations to watch the sunset on the north shore.

  • About Hawaii Wedding Photography by Mark Holladay Lee

  • Aloha, I'm Mark Holladay Lee. I'm a husband, father, surfer and photographer. I didn't realize how much I would love being a professional photographer until I became a father while living in New York City. All the creative energy in that city combined with all the emotions of becoming a dad, lit up my passion with the camera. I was able to learn from some great photographers while living in the city, but my earliest learning with the art, goes back to childhood when I watched my mother work as a photographer. I remember how she crafted a darkroom in whatever house we lived in and decorated our home with pictures from our family travels. She gave me my first camera and first studio lights.

Fast forward several years and here I am living in Hawaii with my family, enjoying every minute of combining my love of people with my love of creating art. I not only photograph people with studio lights, but I photograph in the ocean, from a helicopter, at the beach, in the mountains, and other incredible locations throughout Hawaii. I may sometimes act as a fly on the wall, documenting a moment as it naturally unfolds. Other times I may be actively posing a large group of people in a formal setting. Many times I am capturing life with my family, freezing memories that bring us so much joy to look back on. I would be honored to capture your memories with artistic images that I guarantee you will be thrilled with. I look forward to meeting you!
